  7.     Slathering on a coat of wet river mud felt good at first.
  8. Then Grace Jones had to spend half a day in the stuff. "When
  9. it dries, it starts to crack," says the punk diva, "and it gets
  10. a little cold." In Requiem for the Americas, a new album and
  11. video out this month that celebrate Native Americans, the
  12. earth-covered performer blends with a primordial landscape.
  13. During the taping, Jones decided "it was better not to wear
  14. anything at all" over the mud. Clothing, she reasoned, might
  15. have got stuck to it and pulled the fine hairs on her body.
